Safeguarding policy

At Therapy with Jade, your safety, well-being, and confidentiality are fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. As a qualified Level 5 Integrative Counsellor offering online and telephone sessions across Birmingham, the Wirral, and throughout the UK, I maintain strict ethical standards and robust safeguarding practices. Below you will find answers regarding how confidentiality is maintained, when information must be shared, and vital resources for urgent mental health support.

Frequently asked questions about safeguarding

Therapy thrives in a safe, non-judgemental, and confidential environment. Understanding how safeguarding protects you and those around you ensures we work together with clarity, reassurance, and trust. You can access  my full policy here https://docs.google.com/document/d/18ZYTZjk_kSj8WQrOmRss_OJNeQw4s4az/edit?rtpof=true

Are you registered with a professional body?

Yes. I practice in strict accordance with the professional ethical framework and codes of good practice from accredited counselling governing bodies in the UK. All my core qualifications are completed through Ofqual-regulated courses, including Level 5 Integrative Counselling and trauma training, ensuring full compliance with current safeguarding regulations.

When would confidentiality need to be broken?

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work together. However, there are specific legal and ethical exceptions where I am obligated to break confidentiality: if there is substantial risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, if a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of abuse or neglect, or where required by law (such as acts of terrorism or drug trafficking). Wherever safe and possible, I will always discuss any necessary steps with you first.

How is safeguarding handled during remote counselling?

Because sessions are conducted online and via telephone, during our initial assessment I ask for your location address and details for an emergency contact and your GP. This ensures that in the unlikely event of an acute crisis or safety concern during our session, immediate support can be coordinated to keep you safe.

What should I do if I am in immediate crisis or distress?

Because Therapy with Jade is not an acute crisis service, please reach out directly to emergency and 24/7 mental health services if you need urgent help:

  • Emergency Services: Call 999 or attend your nearest A&E if you are in immediate danger.
  • NHS 111: Call 111 and select the mental health option for urgent guidance.
  • Samaritans (24/7): Call 116 123 or visit samaritans.org.
  • Shout (24/7 text line): Text SHOUT to 85258.
  • CALM: Call 0800 58 58 58 (5pm to midnight).

How can I raise a safeguarding concern or ask questions?

If you or a family member have any questions about this safeguarding policy, or wish to raise a concern regarding client safety, please email me directly at [[email]]. Every concern is taken seriously, handled with discretion, and addressed promptly.

Are safeguarding policies reviewed regularly?

Yes. My policies are continuously updated in accordance with UK statutory guidance, ethical updates from professional counselling bodies, regular clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development.
